Sculptural Intervention in Metsovo, 2015

This landscaping was implemented as part of the autumn events of the Averoff Museum in Metsovo, following the previous year’s autumn events and in particular the event "Sculptural Interventions along the Ursa Trail". This year six sculptors worked at a different part of the mountain route, at a location called Politsora. The area that was chosen for this intervention was a large space with running water -gathered from the surrounding slopes- crossing it. The area had the tendency to turn into a swamp, making it almost inaccessible. At the area a stone-built fountain with running water already existed.

Given the specificity of the location I decided to take advantage of the conditions and help the area become  a place for gathering, relaxation and meditation for walkers, visitors and locals. Two holes were dug, so as to retain the water of the fountain as well as the water gathering from the surrounding environment, and create two ponds, helping in this way the surrounding area to drain. Rocks, pebbles and gravel were transported on site and positioned so as to create a pathway to the other side, where the fountain is located, and to create different levels -also giving the site a more natural look. A stone trough was carved and put in place to retain the water from the fountain, replacing the plastic one that previously existed there. Three big rocks were placed in a circular manner at an open area close to the ponds in order to create a gathering place. Logs were placed in two positions under the trees, creating natural sitting places, as well as two high vertical wooden elements, positioned there so as to define the space and act from a distance as a landmark of the location.
